Trad First Ascent of Augmentium (30, 8a+) in Tasmania, Australia

Augmentium First Ascent

For this week’s Friday Flick Pick we’re featuring the story of Tasmanian local, Squib, and his efforts to achieve the first ascent of a trad route he named, Augmentium (30, 8a+)—located in Freycinet National Park in Tasmania, Australia. Not only is the story for why Squib named this challenging line worth hearing, but the footage of the climb itself is absolutely stunning.

Trad climbing is just more … [trad] is still holding onto that sense of adventure, which is where climbing came from. I like the fact that there’s a danger element. I like playing that mental game.
