Sometimes, when I’ve failed on a route ten times already, and the crux just needs a bit more than what I think I have, I sit there and I stare at the rock in front of me. Rock climbing throws failure in your face. You fall, and the rope is taught and you’re just hanging there, staring at the rock with broken skin on your hands, and there’s no lies or pretty words that can hide the facts. You know exactly when you have failed. But it’s okay, because failure is cherished. Failure means you are pushing your limits, and the greatest thing about climbing is that your limits are as tall as Everest, if you dare.

You can fail a hundred times, but you’ll never stop. The mountains whisper to you. They say, I dare you. And being a climber, you get back on the rock.
