What’s up everybody, my name is Justin Miniard. If you’ve ever been to the Red River Gorge you may have seen me there getting my try hard on! I am also a competitor on American Ninja Warrior seasons 11 & 12! I am constantly training to become a better athlete for Sport Climbing, Bouldering, Ninja Warrior, and general health and fitness. Outside of that, I love contributing to my local climbing community by volunteering for the Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition (RRGCC), Fixed Gear Initiative (FGI), Route Maintenance Crew at Muir Valley, and so much more!

Justin Miniard’s Rock Climbing Gear Recommendations
Black Diamond Solution Harness
Price $: Black Diamond harnesses have always been my go-to for Sport Climbing! My personal favorite is the Solution. It is lightweight and allows you to remain very flexible for those steep and or tech routes! Having four gear loops allows you to load up for those extra-long pitches too!
Evolv Shaman Climbing Shoes
Price $$: I am on my 6th pair of Shamans! They are the most comfortable, easiest to break in, yet aggressive shoe I have ever come across. If you have wider feet, enjoy wearing socks during your warm-up if its cold, or just don’t like tying your shoes, the three Velcro straps across the top of the shoe will allow you to do so. They are great for heel hooks, toe hooks, and digging into the overhung routes!
Sterling Evolution Velocity Climbing Rope-9.8mm
Price $$: Hands down the best rope on the market in my opinion! Very lightweight, durable, great elasticity for those huge whippers! I have zero complaints about this rope. It feeds fantastically through any belay device that you chose.
Five Ten Guide Tennie Approach Shoe
Price $$: If you want people to know you climb when you’re out and about, this is the shoe to have! This shoe has ‘Stealth’ rubber making your approach over rocky terrain a lot more comfortable. This shoe is definitely a fan favorite amongst the climbers in my community!
Black Diamond Posiwire Quickdraw
Price $$: The Posiwire quickdraws by Black Diamond are very smooth to use. They work great in a stick clip, are lightweight and durable. The best feature is the wire gate for fast and smooth clipping.
Prana Stretch Zion Pant
Price $$: If you rock climb and don’t own a pair of Prana pants, can you really call yourself a climber? The Prana Stretch Zion Pants are the absolute best climbing, hiking, and casual pants on the market. They stand up great against the abrasive rock, rappel water, and have a built-in belt if you’re going into sports mode!
Outdoor Research Trucker Cap
Price $: If there is a hat that I cover my gorgeous hair with it’s 100% the OR Trucker Cap. They have a variety of colors, very breathable from the mesh back, and pretty affordable to replace after you’ve sweated through one or destroyed it in other fashions. (I own seven of them.)
