Legendary Characters — Katie Lambert & Ben Ditto Explore Bavaria’s Forgotten Route

Before Sharma and Ondra entered the world, German climbers, Kurt Albert and Wolfgang Gullich were the leaders of difficult climbing. This intrepid pair—among many other climbing contributions—left behind an impressive legacy of bold routes for the rest of us to one day explore.

One such legendary route is the stunning limestone line of Locker vom Hocker in the Austrian alpine—a climb that Katie Lambert and partner, Ben Ditto, discovered in February of 2016 while rummaging through old climbing photos from the 90s. After a few months of planning and enough beta to go for it, Katie and Ben booked tickets to Bavaria to attempt an ascent. This short film follows the adventure that unfolded.
