Why in the world would anyone spend 38 years of their life building a tunnel to nowhere, in the middle of nowhere? No one really knows. Regardless, in 1902, Burro Schmidt started to hand dig through a half-mile of solid granite in the northern Mojave desert to build a tunnel, for no clear reason at all.

Is this sort of action an art? The ultimate meditation on pointlessness?

Whatever it is, this video—which showcases a crew of climbers exploring the absolute choss-ridden rock within this tunnel—will at the very least inspire some consideration on why we do the things we do.
