Campfire: Bouldering is Hard

Jenn climbing

I’m a rope climber. Given the choice between boulders and multi-pitch, I’ll always pick the rope. Bouldering is just so hard. Compacting all the crux moves like that into 20 feet of overhanging rock is just crazy. Plus, who’s gonna catch me? A tiny mat covering a death maze of jagged rocks below me? No thanks. Give me some cams 80ft off the ground and I’m happy. But I have to admit, committing to that overhung throw, snagging that crimp, and knowing that I’m about to top out is pretty exhilarating. It doesn’t matter if that mat can’t save me, because I’ve committed and there’s no way I’m gonna let go.
