Campfire: Flying with Eagles

smith rock

There is snow on the ground. The chilled air is hard to inhale. We make our way down to the morning glory wall. I tie in, to embark up Zebra Zion. My belayer is ready for this beautiful multi-pitch climb. We make it to the first anchor, tie in, and look out upon the gorgeous river, winding along the bottom of the cliff. As I continue up the wall, my belayer shouts “look!” I turn my head and see it. I see the beautiful bird. A bald eagle, no more than 5 yards away from me, soaring through the cold sky.
