A poorly coiled rock climbing rope is difficult on all fronts: it’s messy in the gear bag, it’s hard to carry, it doesn’t flake well, and it knots. Follow this quick tutorial to learn how to seamlessly coil a rope.
A few tips to keep in mind:
- This video shows grabbing one end of the rope; the same technique can be used when grabbing two ends of the rope and coiling two strands at a time
- Although about four final wraps are shown in the video, feel free to do more
- Hold the rope high above your head at the end (like a platter) for easier wrapping
